Unreliable methods of contraception
According to gynecologists, the most popular method of contraception among young women is the calendar method. Moreover, about a third of unplanned pregnancies are the result of the use of such "natural" methods. They cannot be considered reliable.
Of course, none of the existing methods will give a 100% guarantee. But more often pregnancy occurs due to blind faith in those methods that, in fact, are not effective. Listed below are the most unreliable methods, as well as reasons not to rely on them.
Calendar method
This method is the most popular among young women. The idea of contraception according to the calendar arose due to the fact that during the period of ovulation, and especially its peak, the probability of becoming pregnant is very high.
But at the same time, there are no days in the cycle when the probability of fertilization is completely absent. Potentially any day is fine for this, and even menstruation is not an obstacle.
Pull-out method
This method of contraception is very popular. Indeed, it reduces the chance of getting pregnant, but cannot exclude it. The study showed that the number of undesirable outcomes is as much as 29%, and pregnancy occurs in the first year.
The reason is that the pre-ejaculatory lubricant contains sperm in a small amount. This is often enough to lead to an unplanned pregnancy.
Douching the vagina
This method is used by women using antiseptic solutions developed as a remedy after unprotected intercourse. It is noteworthy that there are still no scientific studies that would confirm at least some effectiveness of the method.
In fact, such drugs only reduce the risk of pregnancy, and they can be used only in emergency situations when there was no timely protection. In general, they are aimed at protecting against sexually transmitted diseases rather than against pregnancy.
Spermicide
Pharmacies offer a lot of spermicidal agents - foams, suppositories, gels. All of them really protect against pregnancy. They contain a spermicidal component of the same type. When it is applied to the vagina, this substance acts on the sperm as a barrier, and also neutralizes their ability to fertilize an ovicell. But there is one problem with these remedies.
The fact is that they can only be used strictly by annotation. For example, use during ovulation is useless; nor can they be considered a daily contraceptive. Gynecologists usually prescribe gels, suppositories or foams to married women, provided that their sex life is irregular.
